Wall St rallies on talk of credit rescue plan

US stocks staged a powerful late rally yesterday amid news of a possible government-brokered rescue plan for bond insurers, ending a day of exceptional market volatility across the world.

News of the talks buoyed the markets, which had been falling on concerns that the US Federal Reserve's 75 basis-point interest rate cut on Tuesday would not be enough to prevent a painful recession in the world's biggest economy.
