Liverpool Eight is this year’s release by ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, a musical homage to the Toxteth postcode where he lived as a boy. Liverpool One, based in the central postal district, is a tribute to those other Scouse passions, shopping and partying. The £1bn ($1.8bn), 42-acre site, much of which opened in May, is finally complete, providing the city of 1.4m people a retail and leisure district commensurate with its size.
After eight years of hard work by Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster’s property company, the area has finally reopened for business just as the consumer boom falters.
