Health alert after River Trent cyanide leak

A Severn Trent sewage works has discharged cyanide and raw sewage into the River Trent in Staffordshire.

The incident has been described as “very serious” by the Environment Agency. Thousands of fish have died and the public have been warned to stay away from a 30-mile stretch of the river.
