Pennsylvania in universal healthcare move

The state-lead push toward universal healthcare gained steam on Wednesday after Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell announced a sweeping plan to extend insurance to some 800,000 uninsured adults in the state.

The plan - dubbed Prescription for Pennsylvania –would phase in mandatory health insurance for people with income levels more than 300 per cent of the federal poverty level.
