City loses appetite for M&S’s poor sales

Marks and Spencer next week faces its toughest encounter with the City since its profit warning in July, with analyst downgrades and market share losses setting the scene.

Rod Whitehead from Deutsche Bank, the leading non-food retail team, yesterday said the second quarter sales figures due on October 2 should show “M&S continuing to underperform in general merchandise and food”.
