Ten flagship eco-towns shrink to four

One of the government’s flagship environmental policies on Thursday appeared to have shrunk to a small-scale experiment, as ministers unveiled plans for just four new eco-towns , instead of the 10 originally envisaged.

The four towns in total will provide homes for up to 30,000 people using the latest in environmentally sound technologies, from building materials to renewable sources for electricity and heating.
