Recession boosts armed forces recruits

Britain’s armed forces have seen a significant increase in the number of new recruits joining their ranks over the past year as the recession prompts more young people to opt for a military career, according to new government figures.

Despite the rising casualty toll suffered by UK troops in Afghanistan, the latest armed forces manning figures suggest the sharp rise in UK unemployment is encouraging growing numbers of British job seekers to look for careers in the army, navy and Royal Air Force.
