Upmarket shops hunt ‘platinum pound’

Some of the capital’s most venerable retailers are adapting their business strategies in pursuit of the “platinum pound”.

In the capital’s West End, internationally renowned as a shopping destination for the super-rich, there are many upscale tailors, jewellers or designers that have hardly changed for years. But others are developing – either subtly or radically – to suit the demands of a broader, younger and more international group of ultra-affluent shoppers.
