Downturn punishes Japan moneylenders

Japan’s consumer finance industry suffered a further blow as Promise, the country’s second biggest non-bank moneylender by market value, revealed that it would report an unexpected Y127bn ($1.28bn) loss.

The preliminary estimate for the business year ended March 31 reversed the company’s earlier forecast for a Y16.2bn profit.
