Inexperienced police officers must “never again” be put on the front-line of large-scale protests after many were accused of brutality and heavy-handedness at April’s G20 demonstrations in London, MPs have warned.
In the first report into the policing of the event – published on Monday – the parliamentary home affairs committee said members had been “shocked” by the admission of Scotland Yard’s commander on the day that some officers had not been properly trained and “most had not policed events of this nature before”.
