Successful test results have paved the way for AstraZeneca to launch a challenge to the world’s second-best selling drug.

Tests of AstraZeneca’s new blood-thinning drug, designed to treat heart disease, show it performing 16 per cent better than market leader Plavix, according to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
