Turkey's extraordinary story goes on at Euro 2008. Three times they have been as good as dead in this tournament, and three times they have come back to achieve astonishing victories. Again last night against Croatia they found a last-minute goal - this time to force penalties - and, as three Croatians missed from the spot, progressed to a semifinal against Germany.
It was not, in any sense, a great game, but it will be remembered as fondly by Turkey as any in their history. After 119 minutes of tedium, the game exploded at its finale. Croatia seemed to have won it in the final minute of extra-time as Ivan Klasnic nodded in Luka Modric's cross, but seconds later a long clearance from Rustu Recber fell kindly for Semih Senturk, and the substitute lashed his finish into the top corner.
