M&S investors warn of tension over succession

Marks and Spencer would risk further tensions with shareholders if it opted for an internal candidate to succeed Sir Stuart Rose as chief executive, leading investors have warned.

The odds on an internal candidate being appointed appeared to shorten after comments from Sir Stuart that the board would prefer an insider to become CEO and the appointment of leading internal candidate John Dixon to the board. Several outsiders have also ruled themselves out.
