Pleas from employers to freeze the minimum wage should be ignored by the Low Pay Commission, union leaders demanded yesterday.

The Trades Union Congress, which holds its annual conference next week in Brighton, said the commission instead should raise the minimum wage to more than £6 an hour by 2008.
