Call for efficiency incentives on white goods

Value added tax should be removed entirely from energy-efficient appliances and a car industry-style scrappage scheme introduced for old fridges, freezers and washing machines, the British Retail Consortium said on Monday.

The BRC said the change would help households cut their fuel bills and stimulate demand for new electrical goods, hit hard by the global economic downturn.
