Smiths to halve head office staff

Smiths Group, the engineering conglomerate best-known for making airport security detectors, is halving head office staff numbers and keeping its options open about shifting its tax domicile outside the UK.

The restructuring is the first significant corporate move by Philip Bowman since he took over from Keith Butler-Wheelhouse as chief executive last December and after the disposal last year of Smiths’ aerospace business.
