MARKETS US financial stocks enjoyed spectacular gains on Friday as investors looked beyond the latest bleak economic data and focused instead on the Obama administration’s plans to shore up the stricken sector.
Investors also hoped the jump in the unemployment rate to the highest level since 1992 would help reduce the threat of prolonged political wrangling over the economic stimulus package.
