Critics maintain pressure on US Treasury chief

Things have changed since February when Tim Geithner gave a tepid presentation of his financial rescue plans and even President Barack Obama’s supporters wondered if he had chosen the wrong Treasury secretary.

Actions such as the “stress tests” on banks, that were derided when he first described them in February, are now widely believed to have helped restore confidence to financial markets.
