UK fears over ‘flawed’ sickness benefit test

Welfare-to-work groups on Tuesday expressed concern over a “flawed” test for sickness benefits after it emerged that more than two-thirds of applicants were being rejected under the new rules.

The first official results for the work capability test, introduced last October, show 69 per cent of applicants completing the assessment are placed on the unemployment register rather than being granted long-term sickness benefits.
