UK banks are ripe for consolidation, but buyers are proving scarce

For several years there has been recurrent speculation about further consolidation among the smaller UK banks - but so far very little has happened.

Last week, Eric Daniels, chief executive of Lloyds TSB, noted that UK bank valuations had fallen sharply.
