MF Global shares surge on new guidance

Shares in MF Global, the derivatives broker, surged more than 24 per cent in trading on Friday after the company improved its guidance for the past quarter and announced an overhaul of its risk-control practices.

The stock price was also boosted by the disclosure that Jana Partners, an activist investment firm, had taken an 8.2 per cent passive stake in the company.
