Private sector to be used in money laundering probes

An overhaul of the government's drive against money-laundering, which could see banks and other financial institutions facing fewer time-consuming demands for information, was signalled by the head of the flagship law enforcement agency on Wednesday.

Sir Stephen Lander, chairman of the Serious and Organised Crime Agency, told an FT conference on combating financial crime that he wanted to forge a better partnership with the private sector when the agency starts work next April.
