On a dull autumn day in Nottingham, students at the Russell Group university had plugged in their iPods and were making for the career development centre. It was week two of the annual milk round last October and among them was Henry Stafford, a management student determined not to be left behind in the jobs market.
As Mr Stafford scanned a board to see what presentations were on that day a friend passed by waving aftershave and scent for his girlfriend. “You should go to L’Oréal’s”, the friend said. “It’s cool and there are really good freebies.”
