Body count estimates fuel political debate

How many Iraqis have died in the five years since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq? Estimates differ from a low of about 50,000 to a high of more than 1m.

The huge discrepancy in figures is largely due to the difficulties of gathering accurate information in a country plagued by insurgents and militias.
