Oil and gold higher on Middle East violence

Gold and oil prices spiked on Monday amid escalating violence in the Middle East as Israeli warplanes continued their attacks on the Gaza Strip for a third day.

However, trading in most other commodity markets was subdued, with business mainly comprising of position squaring ahead of the year-end.
