Running a company is often likened to steering a supertanker through uncertain waters but, for Andrew Moffat, it is more like captaining a flotilla of five very different vessels. If one runs into difficulties, it should not hold the others back and the flotilla can stay on course.
That is the theory, anyway: “In normal circumstances, with this base, we are in a good position,” says Mr Moffat, chief executive of Port of Tyne. “Our strategy is continued diversification in business sector and customer base.”
