Deadline for Darfur peace talks extended

The African Union on Monday extended a deadline for the Sudanese government and rebels fighting in Darfur to accept a peace accord by two days, in a last ditch attempt to convince the insurgents to reach an agreement.

But the prospects of a deal looked bleak, with the rebels insisting amendments had to be made to a draft agreement put forward by the AU last week.
