Google reaches out to developers

Google, the leading internet search service, yesterday reached out to the open-source software community in a move designed to boost its support among developers.

Google is increasingly being viewed as a rival to Microsoft as it expands web-based computing, but it lacks the network built up by Microsoft of thousands of developers adapting and implementing its products.
