US team to visit Iraq amid political impasse

Senior US officials are expected to visit Iraq in August amid mounting concern that Washington will complete a significant troop withdrawal from the fragile country with no new government in office.

Concern at the lack of progress made by Iraq’s bickering politicians mounted after parliament failed to convene as scheduled this week because of an impasse that has lasted since inconclusive elections on March 7.
