Pharmaceutical companies have lashed out at the European Union competition commissioner for a “simplistic” and “selective” inquiry into their sector that they warn risks undermining future innovation in drug development.
In a submission to Brussels triggered by a preliminary EU report issued last November, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, the main trade body, criticised the “lack of understanding” of the patent system in the recommendations, which it said risked causing “considerable damage”.
