Expenses furore catches big Labour party donor

Lord Paul, one of Labour’s biggest donors, has been caught in the storm over politicians’ expenses after disclosing he never slept at a small flat in Oxfordshire despite claiming it was his main residence.

The peer, whose family owns one of Britain’s leading engineering companies, was able to claim tens of thousands of pounds from the House of Lords between 2005 and 2006 for living outside London.
