Investors find more comfort in tradition

Investors can now access passive management through a wide range of financial instruments including exchange traded instruments, futures and structured products. However, it is traditional mutual funds that remain the most popular.

Experts agree that although the use of sophisticated instruments grew before the crisis, a reduced risk appetite, increased awareness of counterparty risk and a move back to basics have shifted investments back to funds.
