Generali, the Italian insurance company, is considering a full merger with Alleanza, the smaller rival of which it is the controlling shareholder, according to both groups.

In a joint statement issued at the request of Consob, the Italian stock market regulator, they said "a review of a potential statutory merger by incorporation of Alleanza into Generali is currently under way".
