Bertelsmann full-year profit down by a third

Bertelsmann saw 2008 net profit drop a third to €270m ($365m) after it was forced to make writedowns on investments including UK television’s c hannel Five.

Hartmut Ostrowski, chief executive, said 2009 would be a challenging year across the German media group’s businesses and operating profit and sales were likely to come in below last year’s levels.
