Funds of hedge funds: sector dented but resilient

These are trying times for the funds of hedge funds industry.

Where once funds of funds were perceived as an easy, efficient and, by virtue of diversification, relatively low risk way for institutional investors to gain exposure to alternative investments, post-Madoff there is a growing tendency to view the industry as quite the opposite: opaque, costly and unwieldy.
