TPG’s investment buys time for B&B

Since it floated in 2000, Bradford & Bingley has always been seen as a takeover target even though no bidder has yet materialised. However, it has become clear this would be the moment to strike for anyone interested in buying a stake in the former building society.

The fact that B&B has now attracted a strategic private equity investor is a piece of welcome news for the UK mortgage lender at a time when it has lost its chief executive and is in the throes of a rights issue.
