Margins at Redrow will worsen by five percentage points this year, the housebuilder warned on Wednesday, after announcing falls in selling prices, radical cuts in its building programme and heavy cuts to headcount over the past year.

The news follows a week of similar announcements by other builders including Bovis and Taylor Wimpey, as Britain’s housebuilders scramble to respond to the slowdown in the housing market.
