German factory output surges

German factory output surged unexpectedly in September, in a sign that foreign demand for the nation’s machines and cars bolstered the eurozone’s largest economy in the third quarter.

The German economics ministry said industrial output had risen 2.7 per cent on a seasonally adjusted basis during the month, which was considerably higher than economists’ predictions, which on average had plumped for a 1 per cent gain.
