Philips warns of speed and depth of recession

Philips warned on Thursday that the global economy was declining much “faster and deeper” than expected, as it abandoned profitability targets for 2010 and indicated that it anticipated a net loss in the fourth quarter.

Sharply lower demand from consumers, the automotive industry, the construction sector – and financing problems for US hospitals seeking medical imaging equipment – have hurt the Dutch electronics conglomerate.
