Hundreds trapped in snow on Cornish moorland

An operation to rescue hundreds of people from vehicles stranded in snow on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall was under way last night.

More than 100 vehicles, including coaches, have ground to a halt on the A30, where local people said more than five inches of snow had fallen. Trapped drivers were being urged to stay put until assistance arrived.
