Until recently, most Spaniards had never heard of the concurso de acreedores, which loosely translates as “creditors’ meeting”.
Although in force since 2004, when it replaced two former bankruptcy regimes, the insolvency process rarely touched well-known companies, so most cases went unreported by national media.
