City clears the first Olympic hurdles

Any athlete getting ready for the Olympics sees the three years up to the event as a short time for preparation. By this point, there are clear targets and training schedules, sponsors have been arranged and warm-up events have been marked on the calendar.

The opening ceremony of the London Olympics, on July 27 2012, may still feel a long time off but, like the athletes themselves, the organisers of the event will only enjoy the occasion if the preparation has been carefully planned and well executed.
