Fundraising for emerging market private equity is expected to fall this year, experts predicted yesterday, after a record $66.5bn was raised in 2008 for investments in Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and central and eastern Europe.
“Over time, emerging markets will get a greater share of the private equity cake but that cake is shrinking significantly this year,” said Paul Fletcher, senior partner at Actis, the emerging markets private equity group that raised a $2.9bn fund last year.
