Swiss Re near Asia disaster cover deal

Swiss Re, the world’s biggest reinsurance company, is in advanced talks with four Asian governments to sell insurance policies that would pay out hundreds of millions of dollars in emergency and nationwide funding following a natural disaster.

Andreas Bollmann, who heads Swiss Re’s public sector business development team in Asia, said he expected the negotiations to accelerate in the wake of the cyclone in Burma and the earthquake in China, with the first deal possibly within weeks.
