Industry carves up Myners’ voting plan

Nothing stirs people into action more than the prospect of change. Proposals outlined by Lord Myners, the UK’s City minister, to create a two-tier system to give greater voting rights to long-term institutional investors may encourage more shareholder responsibility, but they have triggered a barrage of protest in the investment industry.

The notion of introducing differential voting rights has been described as everything from an off-the-wall idea to a step in the wrong direction.
