Fed minutes point to ‘close call’ on rates

Stocks and bonds rose on Tuesday afternoon after the minutes of the last Federal Reserve interest rate meeting bolstered expectations that further interest rate rises this year are unlikely.

The minutes said the Federal Open Market Committee’s decision to hold rates steady earlier this month had been “a close call”, and emphasised that further rate rises could be necessary to fight inflation.
