UK detains five in soccer corruption probe

Harry Redknapp became the highest-profile figure in British football to be caught up in police investigations into alleged corruption when the Portsmouth manager was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting. Peter Storrie, the Premier League club’s chief executive, was also arrested in an operation that saw raids on eight addresses across the UK and five individuals detained by the City of London’s economic crime unit.

Milan Mandaric, the chairman and owner of Leicester City and former owner of Portsmouth, was also detained. Am­dy Faye, a Senegal international who plays for Rangers in Glasgow, was another of those arrested, as well as Willie McKay, a Scottish football agent.
