Bid talk helps London higher

A fresh batch of takeover speculation helped the London market make further gains on Tuesday following Monday’s bid frenzy.

BG Group put on 4.2 per cent to 517p as perennial speculation of a bid from Royal Dutch Shell returned to the market. Royal Dutch Shell’s B shares lost 0.3 per cent to £18.38 as the rumour took its toll.
