Portuguese growth off target

Portugal’s economic growth in the final quarter of last year has been revised downwards, calling into question government targets announced on Monday as part of a sweeping austerity plan to cut the budget deficit.

The National Statistics Institute (INE) said the economy contracted 0.2 per cent in the last three months of 2009 compared with the previous quarter.
