Fed’s economic survey offers some cheer

US economic conditions remain “generally weak” but have stabilised in at least five of the 12 districts surveyed in recent weeks by the Federal Reserve.

The Fed’s Beige Book, released on Wednesday, offers a picture of the economy based on anecdotal evidence provided to the US central bank. In April it showed deterioration in conditions in nine of the districts, with only three saying activity was mixed or steady.
